China's national boxing championships concluded in Dalian on Tuesday. The event is a qualifier for the 2012 London Games, and Olympic champions Zou Shiming and Zhang Zhilei were both looking to get a step closer to realizing their Olympic goals.
Zou Shiming in red, took on Jiang Jinyong from Jiangsu in the 48 kilo category. Both fighters are extremely quick and defended very well in the opening rounds. It was a tight contest until Zou seized the chance to score with a flurry of punches to the head and the body. Zou's experience helped him take an 8-1 lead. He held on and won the title 9-2. The win puts him a step closer to qualifying for another shot at the Olympic title.
In the 91 kilo class Beijing Olympic champion Zhang Zhilei, in the red trunks, was untroubled. He also came out on top and picked up valuable points in his quest to return to the Olympics.
