The Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was founded in 1958. For many years, it has undertaken the tasks of treatment, teaching, research, directing junior hospitals, consulting and rescuing the difficult and complicated cases all over the province. It has become a provincial comprehensive hospital with modern medical equipment and solid technical strength.

The hospital covers an area of 48,300 square meters with total 65,996 square meters of floor space. The new inpatient department building with 24000 square meters of building area, which has been used since October of 1997, has achieved the better economic results.

Now there are 1200 faculty and staffs in the hospital, including 69 professors (chief doctors), 120 associate professors (deputy chief doctors) and 143 assistant professors. The fixed asset is 254.47 million R.M.B., the total investment in medical equipment is more than 100 million R.M.B. and the capacity of bed is over 900.

The number of out-patient is over 400 thousand per year, with more than 12000 hospitalized patients. The hospital has 23 executive branches, 32 clinical and technical departments, 16 clinical teaching and research sections, 4 clinical research institutes. The clinical sections include one provincial key department, 4 urban key departments and 10 key departments in the hospital.

In respect of scientific research, the hospital has achieved 93 national, provincial, and urban scientific research items. The number of thesis published is 25 in the international journals, 355 in the national journals and 438 in the provincial journals during the last 5 years.

There are 72 professors as chief and vice-chief director in Chinese Medical Association ( Liaoning branch and Dalian branch) and 25 invited as the editorial board members of different medical journals. The hospital finishes 10-level clinical teaching and practice, such as graduate teaching, undergraduate teaching and so on every year.

The hospital puts emphasis on improving the comprehensive service ability. The medical equipment is renewed continuously. Now it has 1608 modern appliances, including 2300 C/D Linear Accelerator, German Doly Dorsos DSA device, and other large-scale equipment.

The hospital actively expanses the exchange with foreign countries, and keeps friendly contacts with the medical organizations of Japan, America, Germany, Russia etc.
