(DALIANNEWS)- The daily highest temperature rose to 36.9 degrees centigrade in the downtown area of Dalian on August 1, 2018, setting a new record high temperature ever since 1951 when the city started to gather the meteorological materials.
The city's county-level cities of Zhuanghe and Changhai also saw the highest temperatures of 37.7 degrees and 36 degrees respectively on Wednesday, both breaking the temperature record in their histories, while the county-level city of Pulandian witnessed its daily highest temperature of 37.5 degrees, reaching the second-highest in its temperature history since 1971.
High temperatures of above 32 degrees have scorched most areas of the port city of Dalian in the recent five days from July 27. The city’s downtown area has also seen over 31 degrees in recent seven days, with the relative humidity in the air reaching over 90 percent in some time periods, which makes people feel higher apparent temperature.
Local meterological authority has issued yellow alert for high temperature for four consecutive days, and has also upgraded the high temperature alert to an orange level on August 1.
The lingering heat wave is caused by a strong subtropical high pressure over the Northwestern Pacific, with temperatures climbing above 40 degrees in eight local temperature observation stations.
The city of Dalian will continue to experience high temperatures of 35 to 37 degrees in the following days, according to the report.
Local meterological authority warned of potential risk of heat stroke and suggested outdoor work reduced.
