(DALIANNEWS)- The 15th Dalian International Walking Festival kicks off at the musical fountain square of Donggang CBD in Dalian, a port city of Northeastern China's Liaoning Province, May 20, 2017.
It is the first time for the festival to set the start point from Donggang CBD in the east and extend the walking route along the Binhai road in the west.
Accompanied by the fresh air and gentle sea breeze, more than 100,000 walking lovers from eight countries such as Switzerland, Britain, the Netherlands and Belgium and domestic cities and provinces such as Beijing, Shanghai, Jilin and Guangdong take part in the 5 km, 20 km and 30 km courses which start from the main venue of Donggang CBD on the first day of the festival.

Walking lovers come to the main venue as early as six o'clock this morning, and do not have to wait for the unified instruction for departure. They come to the starting point and go immediately so as to release the pressure of the large number of participators at the main venue.
The organizing committee also holds a brief opening ceremony at 8 am this morning, with the attendance of the city's Mayor Xiao Shengfeng and other government officials.
The festival attracts a total of 5,000 environmental protection volunteers, an increase of 2,000 people than that of the previous year. Many high school students also join in the volunteer team this year.
With the theme of "Health, Peace and Communication", the festival will be held at the main venue of Donggang CBD and sub-venues of Jinshitan, Ganjingzi, Hi-tech zone and Lushsun on May 20 and 21, as well as the sub-venue of Pulandian on May 27.
