(DALIANNEWS)– Dalian ranked in the list of “Top 10 Low-Carbon Cities in China” several days ago according to a report on the establishment of Chinese low-carbon cities which was issued by Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

According to the top ten list, the top three places go to Hefei, Guangzhou and Nanjing; the fifth and eighth go to Shanghai and Beijing; and other places go to cities including Fuzhou, Qingdao, Dalian, Jinan and Xiamen.

Although the establishment of low-carbon cities and demonstrations is evoking heat discussion across the country, there is no scientific and measurable index system for low-carbon development in China.

To deal with this situation, Chinese Academy of Sciences establishes an index system for Chinese low-carbon development focusing on five goals for the development of low-carbon cities, such as economic development, well-equipped facilities, smart low-carbon, livable environment and disaster prevention and safety.

In terms of the five goals, the index system also sets up an urban evaluation in five aspects mostly covering the city’s economic and social characteristics, infrastructure construction characteristics, energy consumption features, traffic and transportation as well as characteristics of environmental impact.
