(DALIANNEWS)- Sirens began wailing at 9:18 a.m. on Sunday morning in the coastal city of Dalian, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Japan's invasion of China, also known as 9/18 incident.

At the same time, over five thousand local residents also took part in a concealment drill against the air attack, so as to remind people of the Japanese invasion into China's northeastern region 80 years ago.

More than 180 students from Dalian Maritime University joined in a hiking activity to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Japan's invasion of China.

Japanese forces attacked the barracks of Chinese troops in Shenyang on Sept. 18, 1931, which marked the beginning of the Japanese invasion and occupation that lasted 14 years.
