The Changshan Archipelago is located in the North Yellow Sea, east of Liaodong Pennisula. Consisting of 112 islands, inlets, rocks, shoals and reefs, it constitutes the only island border town of China. Its spectacular unspoiled scenery has attracted visitors in droves. Legend has it that about 10 years ago, during the construction of a hotel, gold colored rocks of striking shapes were unearthed. After years of careful excavation, the planned hotel was replaced by Jinshi Yuan Park, a forest of 20-meter-high rocks. The uniquely shaped rocks are often described as imaginative sculptures of nature. Also nicknamed as a "Natural Geological Museum" and a "Concrete Animal World," the park's rocks were formed by erosion 600-million years ago, the same age during which the dinosaurs once lived.
