The Spectacle of Culture

Culture embodies human spiritual wealth covering such aspects as education, science, art, sports, etc. Dalian, with only 102 years as its historical background, might not develop that fast culturally. Its unique geographical position and pleasant climate, however, have made this piece of land legendarily productive in the aspect of cultural growth, especially in the recent couple of decades.

Dalian is becoming more and more conspicuous in the fields of education, science, art, sports and public health, displaying a magnificent cultural spectacle. Represented by Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Marine University and Dalian Chemistry and Physics Research Institute, the academic field of science and education in Dalian enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad.

With Dalian Acrobatic Troupe, Dalian Peking Opera Group and Dalian Song and Dance Ensemble as the representatives, the performing art circle of Dalian keeps making improvements and turning out outstanding performances. Mass culture and entertainment, represented by the Farmer's Brass Band from Desheng Town, Jinzhou District and Women Dragon Dance Team from Shengminsi Village, Dalijia Town, have made the domestic and overseas artists gasp in admiration.

Dalian Radio and Television Center was set up a few years ago. Dalian Natural Museum was reconstructed at a better location. Dalian Library went through a reconstruction of large scale. There are also the Lushun Museum and Dalian Modern Museum. All of these have added some color and charm to the city and expanded the cultural connotation and legacy as well.

During seven years, Dalian Soccer Team has won the first place for five times in the professional division, Group A of the National League Soccer Match.

Dalian has also fostered a number of worldwide famous athletes in cycling, swimming and surfing, who have brought glory back to Dalian. The last but not the least, "Majia Team" in the events of track and field always brings surprising news of triumph and extends its fame.
 
Striking features exist in tourism, shopping and gourmandism in Dalian.
